Working Class Mystic: A Spiritual Biography of George Harrison

Working Class Mystic: A Spiritual Biography of George Harrison, by Gary Tillery. John Lennon called himself a working class hero. George Harrison was a working class mystic. Born in Liverpool as the son of a bus conductor and a shop assistant, for the first six years of his life he lived in a house with no indoor bathroom. This book gives an honest, in-depth view of his personal journey from his blue-collar childhood to his role as a world-famous spiritual icon. Author Gary Tillery’s approach is warmly human, free of the fawning but insolent tone of most rock biographers. He frankly discusses the role of drugs in leading Harrison to mystical insight but emphasizes that he soon renounced psychedelics as a means to the spiritual path. It was with conscious commitment that Harrison journeyed to India, studied sitar with Ravi Shankar, practiced yoga, learned meditation from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and became a devotee of Hinduism. George worked hard to subdue his own ego and to understand the truth beyond appearances. He preferred to keep a low profile, but his empathy for suffering people led him to spearhead the first rock-and-roll super event for charity. And despite his wealth and fame, he was always delighted to slip on overalls and join in manual labor on his grounds. At ease with holy men discussing the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, he was ever the bloke from Liverpool whose father drove a bus, whose brothers were tradesmen, and who had worked himself as an apprentice electrician until the day destiny called.

Tillery’s engaging narrative depicts Harrison as a sincere seeker who acted out of genuine care for humanity and used his celebrity to be of service in the world. Fans of all generations will treasure this book for the inspiring portrayal it gives of their beloved “quiet” Beatle.

"Having first known him back in the days when he was called only 'the quiet Beatle,' it thrills me no end that George's inner journey has now been so splendidly chronicled."--Victor Spinetti

The Mother of Invention: The Legacy of Barbara Marx Hubbard and the Future of YOU

The Mother of Invention: The Legacy of Barbara Marx Hubbard and the Future of YOU, by Neale Donald Walsch. A biography unlike any other, The Mother of Invention tells the story of every human being now on the earth . . . through the telling of the life story of futurist and visionary Barbara Marx Hubbard. We are all moving through the same process, the book and its subject declare. It is the process of the birthing of our species.

In what may very well be a new literary style, this biography begins in the future, unraveling Barbara’s story backward: from December 22, 2012, to the date of her birth. Throughout the book are special sections inviting us to explore how we may directly apply what Barbara has observed and learned during her remarkable 80-year journey . . . to our own daily lives.

On this journey, we will witness Barbara as she became one of the first women ever to have her name placed in nomination for the vice presidency of the United States by a major political party, traveled to Russia as a cultural ambassador for peace, visited the Oval Office and asked the President a question that he could not answer, and developed a deep acquaintanceship with the American space program. Today, we continue to find her at the leading edge of contemporary thought and innovative action regarding our construction of the future.

In a very real sense, the story of Barbara Marx Hubbard is the story of the future of all of us, rendering it one of the most relevant and compelling modern biographies of our time.

With an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, Neale Donald Walsch spent the majority of his life thriving professionally, yet searching for spiritual meaning before beginning his now-famous Conversation with God series. These books have been translated into 37 languages, touching millions and inspiring important changes in people’s day-to-day lives. Seven of his 27 books have reached the New York Times bestsellers list.

Neale lives in Ashland, Oregon, with his wife, poet Em Claire. In 2001 he founded Humanity’s Team, which he describes as a worldwide civil-rights movement for the soul (www.humanitysteam.org/). In 2005 he began work on putting into place a global education program, The School of the New Spirituality(www.schoolofthenewspirituality.com/). In 2010 he created the CwG Spiritual Mentoring Program for individuals seeking to bring their highest spiritual understanding into their everyday lives. Click here for more information or to order.

In the Shadow of the Buddha

In the Shadow of the Buddha: Secret Journeys, Sacred Histories, and Spiritual Discovery in Tibet, by Matteo Pistono. For nearly a decade, Matteo Pistono smuggled out of Tibet evidence of atrocities by the Chinese government, showing it to the U.S. government, human rights organizations, and anyone who would listen. Yet Pistono did not originally intend to fight for social justice in Tibet-he had gone there as a Buddhist pilgrim.

Disillusioned by a career in American politics, he had gone to the Himalayas looking for a simpler way of life. After encountering Buddhism in Nepal, Pistono's quest led him to Tibet and to a meditation master whose spiritual brother is Sogyal Rinpoche, bestselling author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. Pistono not only became the master's student but also couriered messages to him in Tibet from the Dalai Lama in India. This began an extraordinary, and ultimately vital, adventure.

In the Shadow of the Buddha is a book about Tibet through the eyes of a devotee-a stranger hiding in plain sight. It's about how a culture's rich spiritual past is slipping away against the force of a tyrannical future. It's about how Tibetans live today, and the tenacity of their faith in the future in spite of dire repression and abuse. It's also about Pistono's own journey from being a frustrated political activist to becoming a practicing Buddhist mystic, a man who traveled thousands of miles and risked his own life to pursue freedom and peace.

Matteo Pistono is a writer, photographer, political activist and practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism. He lived and traveled throughout the Himalayas for a decade, bringing to the West first-hand accounts and photos of China's human rights abuses in Tibet. He is the founder of Nekorpa, a foundation working to protect sacred pilgrimage sites around the world. Pistono and his wife, Monica, divide their time between Colorado, Washington D.C., and Asia. Manifesting Michelangelo

Manifesting Michelangelo: The Story of a Modern-Day Miracle--That May Make All Change Possible, by Joseph Pierce Farrell. At the dawn of the new millennium, Joseph Pierce Farrell made a startling discovery that holds the potential to transform the world. Having abandoned his childhood dream of a career in healthcare when he was a young man, he drifted into a humble job restoring antiques and furniture. Then one evening while working in his basement studio, his hands busied themselves carving, and his mind was free to soar with the unlimited imagination of a child. In that moment, he experienced a brilliant blinding flash that ignited within him a remarkable power. Since that transformative moment, he has demonstrated the capacity to physically manifest change before the eyes of scientists and physicians, demonstrating a previously unknown human capacity that will forever redefine the limits of human potential, alter science, and transform the face of healthcare.

After a decade pioneering the exploration of the latent potential that lies dormant in the consciousness of humanity, he was invited to present his discovery internationally in academic settings, catapulting him to the cutting edge of the integrative healthcare movement. Endorsed by leading researchers and medical doctors, Farrell's body of evidence has served to construct a bridge to allow science and spirituality to heal their divide and advance the acceptance of the emerging integrative healthcare model.

This unprecedented book chronicles Farrell's journey of discovery and poignantly illustrates stories of human transformation. He outlines an easy-to-follow five step process that readers can follow to ignite their own potential to manifest change in their lives across all fields of human endeavor. Heralding a message of unlimited possibility, Manifesting Michelangelo presents a compelling argument supporting what science is beginning to embrace, what the great artists have always known, and what spiritual traditions have long promised--that we all possess a latent capacity that if ignited will empower us all to manifest on the level of the miraculous. It is the first book that asks us to believe--based not on faith alone, but on evidence, and eyewitness expert testimony, that we have the capacity to literally manifest the change in the world that our conscience decrees and our hearts desire.

Joseph (JP) Pierce Farrell is an internationally-recognized ambassador for advancing the evolution of healthcare to embrace the integral relationship of the mind-body-spirit. His pioneering work redefines what it truly means to be human and shatters the previously held limits of human potential across all fields of human endeavor. For his pioneering work, physicians have described him as a "visionary and bridge builder in the study of science and spirituality" and a virtual "Avatar in a Brook's Brother's suit." In addition, he is an author, lecturer, and a creator of media that seeks to inspire humanity along its evolutionary path. Click here for more information or to order.

Heaven's Bride: The Unprintable Life of Ida C. Craddock

Heaven's Bride: The Unprintable Life of Ida C. Craddock, American Mystic, Scholar, Sexologist, Martyr, and Madwoman, by Leigh Eric Schmidt. The nineteenth-century eccentric Ida C. Craddock was by turns a secular freethinker, a religious visionary, a civil-liberties advocate, and a resolute defender of belly-dancing. Arrested and tried repeatedly on obscenity charges, she was deemed a danger to public morality for her candor about sexuality. By the end of her life Craddock, the nemesis of the notorious vice crusader Anthony Comstock, had become a favorite of free-speech defenders and women’s rights activists. She soon became as well the case-history darling of one of America’s earliest and most determined Freudians.

In Heaven’s Bride, prize-winning historian Leigh Eric Schmidt offers a rich biography of this forgotten mystic, who occupied the seemingly incongruous roles of yoga priestess, suppressed sexologist, and suspected madwoman. In Schmidt’s evocative telling, Craddock’s story reveals the beginning of the end of Christian America, a harbinger of spiritual variety and sexual revolution.

Leigh Eric Schmidt is Charles Warren Professor of American Religious History at Harvard University, and the author of numerous books, including Restless Souls and Consumer Rites. He lives in Belmont, Massachusetts. Click here for more information or to order.

DreamHealer: A True Story of Miracle Healings

DreamHealer: A True Story of Miracle Healings, by Adam. DreamHealer was originally self-published by Adam when he was sixteen, and has gone on to become an underground bestseller, selling more than 30,000 copies in Canada. The book tells the story of how the author came to discover his unique energy healing abilities, and how he became one of the most talked about healers in his country. He has been called “a miracle worker”by The Globe and Mail and his high-profile healings of astronauts and rock legends have catapulted him into standing-room-only events and consistent national media. DreamHealer is a story of both his coming to terms with his healing gift at such a young age, and his remarkable healings of people with myriad health concerns. His writing is inspirational and enlightening, and his insights into healing offer hope to anyone.

Hope is a dire need in our present world of turmoil threatened with war, fear, terrorism, and economic downturn. Adam transmits this hope. He is exceptional for his 16 years of age and wise beyond his years and has a special gift for healing. This book portrays the truth on the ultimate healing with love. Everyone, with no exceptions needs to read this book. Each person can learn a great deal from his honest messages. Adam’s growth and approach are methodically portrayed and interestingly includes some scientific correlations and analogies. I have the distinct privilege of being one of Adam’s mentors, teachers and friends, so I have closely followed his development with extreme interest. Adam’s life has a remarkable balance because not only has Adam become a very talented healer, but also an "A" student in his regular studies in school, and a top ranking athlete in many sports. As well, his family is most loving and supportive. Therefore, the energy that he emanates in his healing is untroubled, pure and fresh. As part of my own interest, and as an appointee by the President of the United States to the 20 member White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy (WHCCAMP), I have observed innumerable international healers. Adam is amongst the most gifted ones in his field of healing. In addition, with over 40 years of experience in healing and teaching, one learns to discern the levels of spiritual-ness in healing. Adam reflects a level of honesty and truth that is of the purist form. There is a serious challenge too in his life. Adam having always had the ability to see and feel energy fields, naturally as though this was a normal everyday occurrence. However, upon revelation that this skill was highly unusual, he had to deal with this immense "difference". The phenomenon of seeing energy fields is known to the community of complementary and Alternative Medicine, but among the general population, it is still misunderstood. Adam, being so young, is taking a courageous stance to be willing to openly discuss his special healing skills and cases in this book. He is in the forefront of helping people understand that there is another dimension in life. He is also willing to subject his fine healing skills to the scrutiny of scientific research especially in the area of cancer and tumours. Adam, I will gladly assist you in making connections to accomplish that noble goal. Adam is a model of hope, that our youth of today can bring healing and thus peace to this troubled world. His book "DreamHealer" is a must read for everyone to enable all to have courage to be different and respect those who are different. He will enable us to maximize our own human potential to bring about a better world.

Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons

Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons, by John Carter, Robert Anton Wilson. ISBN 0922915970. Scientist, poet, and self-proclaimed Antichrist, Jack Parsons was a bizarre genius whose life reads like an implausible yet irresistible science fiction novel. Sex and Rockets looks at his short life and dual career as cofounder of Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and leader of the Agape Lodge of Aleister Crowley's Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO). Author John Carter scours primary documents and interviews surviving friends and contemporaries to deliver an intriguing portrait of a dreamy, driven man equally interested in rocketry and magick. From his early childhood and deep attachment to his mother (who killed herself hours after he died) through his nonacademic research and brilliant innovations in solid fuels to his mysterious 1952 demise in a garage-laboratory explosion at the age of 37, the reader gets the impression of a man whose obsession with explosives and propellants was nearly single-minded. Yet this same man found spiritual fulfillment through Crowley's Law of Thelema, conducted magickal operations with L. Ron Hubbard, and signed an oath asserting himself to be the Antichrist--clearly Parsons wasn't a boring guy in a white coat. Carter pulls off the difficult task of integrating Parsons's disparate drives into one compelling story; though there are some rough spots and awkward transitions, one gets the sense that this illuminates the man's life better than a smooth, flawless work would. Robert Anton Wilson's introduction is smart and funny as always, initiating the uninformed into the basics of Crowleyanity while placing Parsons in the context of his times. While it might not be possible to read universal themes into Parsons's life, Sex and Rockets is an excellent study of a passionate life fully lived.
